Hercules Presentation Cel With Hand-Painted Background (Walt Disney, 1997). Disney's 35th animated feature film premiered with a lavish New York City Parade down Broadway on 6/15/87. Tate Donovan was the voice of Hercules with Danny DeVito providing the voice for his sidekick Phil. Because production cels were not used in the making of Hercules, presentation cels were hand-painted by Disney's Ink and Paint Department to be placed on hand-painted production background or hand-painted overlay cels. These one-of-a-kind animation art setups were sold at the "Art of Disney's Hercules" auction held in New York City on June 20, 1998. This is Lot 71 from that sale. The piece is a presentation cel of the three-headed Hydra dragon. It has Hercules and Phil watching it sprout three heads. The three heads appear after Hercules had chopped off its original head. The top cel is a rain effects cel. This lot is a 6-cel setup with two production overlays. The piece is in a 34" x 28" Plexiglas-front frame with a mat opening of 24" x 18". A Sotheby's lot sticker is on back of the frame and a Disney seal is on the cel. Frame is sold as-is. Artwork is in Very Good condition.
