Hank Porter - World War II Insignia Concept Art (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). This is an outstanding original World War II Insignia design by Hank Porter (1900 - 1951) for the Navy Fighter Planes' "Fighting Squadron Fifty." This group fought the Japanese in the South Pacific. They flew F6F Hellcat fighter planes and were called the "Devil Cats." Cats, including lions and tigers, were, after birds, the most popular generic animals used for insignias. This particular finished insignia can be seen on page 83 in the Tiger section in the new Japanese book on World War II Insignias called Characters of Military. Amazing graphite drawing with orange and yellow highlights on vellum-type onionskin paper. Great 4" x 4" image of the Devil Cat on a fighter plane, firing away at the enemy. Paper is trimmed to 7.5" x 8". This is one of the most detailed Porter Insignia drawings we have seen! Fine condition.Shipping, Taxes, Terms and Bidding
