Hair-Raising Hare Bugs Bunny and Gossamer Production Cel (Warner Brothers, 1946). "Hey, you look like a strong, heathy boy. Give me a hand." Bugs Bunny and the movie-going public first encounter the furry orange Gossamer in this critically acclaimed Warner Brothers short directed by the legendary Chuck Jones. While technically Gossamer was un-named in this film, he is addressed as Rudolph in his next appearance, in Water Water Every Hare (1952). He was ultimately given his current moniker nearly three decades later in Jones' Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24th½ Century (1980). This incomparable hand-inked hand-painted production cel setup of Bugs and Gossamer appears at the 02:57 mark as Bugs discovers he is to be served up as the monster's meal. This key scene serves as reference imagery on both Wikipedia and in the classic Looney Tunes video library on HBOMAX. Offered here is one of the most incredibly rare vintage Warner Brothers cels we've ever come across. Gossamer and Bugs are in full-figure standing 8.5" and 5" respectively on a 12 field 2-cel setup over a custom background. Original production artwork from vintage Warner Brothers cartoons is exceptionally hard to find, but this magnificent museum-worthy setup represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to possess what is easily one of the best Warner Brothers cels in existence. Hair Raising Hare has been rated #42 in Jerry Beck's book The 100 Greatest Looney Tunes Cartoons and was the last short that Jones would portray Bugs in a crouching, Groucho-esque form, opting afterward to use Robert McKimson's design for the character. This historic piece is in a 20.5" x 18" frame under Plexiglas with a 12" x 9" mat window.
