Gulliver's Travels Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background (Max Fleischer, 1939). In one of the most amazing scenes ever animated, the tiny folk of Lilliput hoist the tied-up giant Gulliver and proceed to pull a wooden cart under him, drawn by many horses. This is an original hand-inked, hand-painted 2-cel with painted overlay setup from that scene (found at the 31:36 mark), placed on the original hand-painted background of Gulliver. Wow! The painted overlay is to the right, showing part of the wood and rope pulley system; the horses and lead rider are painted on the cels. Eleven tiny horses are visible, each one hand-inked and painted. Gulliver's Travels was only the second full-rendered animated feature film, following Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; it was Max Fleischer's crowning glory in his twenty-one year animation career. Tape along the left side; some elements of the hand-cut overlay have been bent back, and there is handling and edge wear, but the overall condition remains Very Good.
