    Description

Goofy The Reluctant Dragon "How To Ride A Horse" Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1941). The "How To Ride A Horse" section of the feature film The Reluctant Dragon, was the first of the Goofy "How To..." series to be narrated by John McLeish. This is an outstanding layout/publicity drawing of Goofy and Percy on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. It looks to be from the Disney Publicity Art Department. There is amazing detail and kinetic action in this graphite, with red pencil highlights drawing that measures 10" x 8" on the page. This is one of the best vintage Goofy drawings we have seen. Although named Goofy, he looks rather prim and proper in his monocle and top hat, measuring 5" tall. Percy the horse measures 8", hoof-to-tail. Slight tanning, otherwise in Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
