Good Scouts Theatrical Poster Preliminary Art (Walt Disney/RKO, 1938). Exceptional preliminary artwork of Donald Duck with Huey, Dewey, and Louie for the RKO theatrical poster, featuring hand-drawn artwork attributed to Hank Porter. This was only the second appearance of the nephews in a theatrical short. Jack King was director of the short, with some of the animation done by Jack Hannah; it was released to theaters on 7/8/38, and went on to be nominated for an Academy Award. It is significant in Donald Duck history, in that the story was written via storyboards created by the Duck Man himself, Carl Barks, along with Harry Reeves (there's a classic photo of Barks and Reeves "acting out" the storyboard, which can be found online; it also appears on page 19 of the deluxe Uncle Scrooge: His Life and Times book). Barks would later create a scout-like "Junior Woodchucks" organization for the nephews in his comic book stories. "RKO Radio Pictures in Technicolor" is in light blue at border of this very polished drawing, done in graphite with red pencil highlights on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Nice images of 3" and 4". Matted with an opening size of 8" x 11.5", and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 13.75" x 17.25". Some minor creases, and a paperclip mark along the bottom edge. Very Good overall condition.
