Description

Goliath II Production Background (Walt Disney, 1960). From the Academy Award-nominated Disney short Goliath II, we have in this lot a splendid production background, as seen at the 9:14 mark of the wonderful cartoon. Famous for being the first Disney short using fully xeroxed lines on the production cels, this production was directed by Wolfgang Reitherman and written by Bill Peet, telling the story of the titular 6-inch elephant. We can see this slightly spooky image of a pond, rendered in gouache on 16-field three-peghole background board, as Goliath II leaves his herd and ventures into the dark jungle. Background artists for this short include Gordon Legg, Richard H. Thomas, and Thelma Witmer. The background shows the notes "#2489 Sc. 109, 117.6" near the bottom right corner. In Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear from production.
