Description

Father's Weekend Production Background by Disney Legend Al Dempster (Walt Disney, 1953). "Where'd you go- ow!" Goofy becomes the target in this lovely painted background from the Jack Kinney and David Hand-directed short Father's Weekend. The short showed the audience a normal weekend for Goofy as he tried to have a relaxing time with his son, though the vacation soon proves to be anything but. This masterful gouache background is perfect for a cel setup and appears at about 5:11 as Goofy looks for his son behind a ball game. He lands himself in the center of the target, baseballs flying towards him. It was created by Disney Legend Al Dempster (1911 - 2001), one of the best background artists at the studio who contributed to over 17 feature films as well as the wonderful world of storybook illustration where he would work on Golden Book editions of Three Little Pigs, Pinocchio, and more! You can clearly see his expertise in this 12'' x 9.25'' background, rendered on 12 field 3-peghole board, with its vibrant colors and seamless use of light and shadow. It is noted for Scene 54 of production 2444 and with only light edge and handling wear and a pinhole, this lot is in Very Good condition!
From the Mike Glad Museum Collection.
