Fantasia Mickey Mouse Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1940). The multiplane camera was created as a way to shoot three-dimensional effects, utilizing oil paintings on many levels of glass. Disney used as many as seven layers at times. Three Disney multiplane cameras still exist and are on display at two theme parks and the Disney Family Museum. Here's an extremely rare "Multiplane Camera" concept painting of Mickey Mouse on top of the mountain for the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" Segment of Fantasia. It showcases the depth of detail Disney went to in their animated filmmaking. Mickey is directing the stars and sky in this oil painting on heavy board with airbrush and drybrush effects to show how the scene will appear when rendered and shot on glass. Painted image on board is 10.5" x 7.875", while the overall board size is 15.5" x 12.5". Notes in right top corner read Multiplane Red BG Oil Green Glass airbrush. Very rare. Framed with Plexiglas, matted with an opening of 15" x 12". Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
