Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Maleficent and Diablo Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). "Before the sun sets on her 16th birthday, she shall prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die!" The fateful hour featuring the nefarious Maleficent and her pet raven Diablo is presented here in this stunning and colorful original concept painting by the hand of Disney Legend Inductee Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000). Many of the hallmarks of great Eyvind Earle artwork are featured here: The rocky textures of the walls, the geometric trees, the bright colors contrasted with dark complementary shadows, all are in service of establishing a moody setting and a sinister villain to unbelievable effect. A beloved and fan-favorite Disney villain, this is a fantastic image featuring the character in a passive and thoughtful pose. This gorgeous piece that significantly defined the look and feel of Sleeping Beauty is rendered masterfully in gouache on illustration board, framed under glass with a mat window size of 11.5" x 6" and an overall frame size 17.75" x 11.75".
