Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). Majestic, magnificent and marvelous, this is a stunning and large masterwork created for the color styling of the 1959 Disney animated masterpiece Sleeping Beauty by the hand of the great Disney Legend Inductee Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000). Bold, flat, and contrasting colors create atmospheric perspective coupled with a wide variety of rich textures: the unmistakable Eyvind Earle tree bark, the geometric foliage, the rich colors, all hallmarks of Eyvind Earle's greatest work. This piece even depicts the iconic Sleeping Beauty castle. Sleeping Beauty retained the styling of its concept art in the final film perhaps more than any Disney film preceding it, making it a renowned animated feature for its unique stylization owed largely to Eyvind Earle. This jaw-dropping piece is rendered in gouache on illustration board, and it measures a whopping 23.25" x 8.5". The painting bears the artist's signature, and it shows minor handling and edge wear.
