Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Color Key/Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1959). Offered in this lot is an exceptional piece of Color Key/concept art by Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000). Earle was Sleeping Beauty's production designer. Walt Disney gave him a significant amount of freedom in designing the settings and selecting colors for the film. He also painted the majority of the backgrounds himself. Earle took much of his inspiration from medieval art, particularly the millefleurs style of 15th-century tapestries, which tended toward a certain flatness and perspective lessness. This masterful painting by Eyvind Earle depicts "the kiss" seen near the end film, around the 1:11:21 time mark. Beautifully painted in gouache on board. The piece is housed in a glass-fronted frame of 12" x 16.5". The frame has a fabric covered matboard with an aperture of 7" x 11". Frame sold as-is. Original artwork from the hand of Eyvind Earle is arguably one of the crown jewels of animation art. This is simply a beautiful Earle piece! Condition is Fine.
