DescriptionEyvind Earle Lady and the Tramp Concept/Color Key Painting with Signature (Walt Disney, 1955). "Hey! Tony's! Of course. The very place for a very special occasion. No, this way, Pidge. I have my own private entrance." Created for one of Disney's most iconic scenes, this is an incredible and large work of concept art by the hand of Disney Legend Inductee Eyvind Earle (1916-2000). Informing the look and feel of the "Bella Notte" sequence, Eyvind Earle is responsible for the unforgettable romantic colors and evening landscape visuals of the scene. The idyllic neighborhoods and setting of Lady and the Tramp were famously based on Marceline, Missouri, the childhood hometown of Walt Disney. A long, landscape format piece measuring 22" x 8.5", the image of Lady and Tramp approaching Tony with a prepared table is only a fraction of the rest of the piece, giving the scene a feeling of intimacy and suggesting the romantic stroll through the parks of the town to come later in the scene. Additionally, a charming unused hotel makes an appearance. One of the single most important and romantic scenes in the history of animation, Eyvind Earle contributing over 50 concept/color key background paintings for the scene. The cool colors and a full moon accompanied by the signature textures of Eyvind Earle make this a must-have for fans of the artist, Lady and the Tramp, and art as a whole. The piece is rendered in gouache on illustration board, and it bears the signature of the artist. The board shows minor handling and edge wear with pinholes in the corners, and there is a faint pencil line near the right edge. The condition is Very Good.
