Early Disneyland Construction Photograph with Walt Disney Signed Check (Walt Disney, 1951-55). Mickey Mouse and Goofy pitch in and help out in this photo of construction at Disneyland, circa early 1955 (the park opened to the public on July 18, 1955). It's been reported that Walt Disney hated the term "amusement park," as that name conjured up visions of seedy, run-down affairs; instead, his park was more closely inspired by events like 1933's Century of Progress in Chicago, or the 1939-40 World's Fair in New York. This rare photo is matted and framed with something even more rare: a check hand-signed by Walt Disney and drawn on his personal Bank of America account, with the studio address of 2400 Alameda Avenue in Burbank, California. It's paid to "Walt Disney Special Account" in the sum of $475, dated April 18, 1951. Mat openings measure 10" x 7.25" for the photo, and 8.25" x 3" for the check. The glass-front frame measures 17.75" x 20" and is sold as-is. The canceled check and photo print are in Fine condition. This lot will have to ship from Dallas to the winning bidder. From the MacLaughlin Family Disney Collection.
