Dumbo Final Scene Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background (Walt Disney, 1941). "When I see... when I see... when I see an elephant FLY!" This is the song reprise that plays as Dumbo is reunited in the circus train with his mother, as the Crows, all perched on the telephone pole, wave goodbye. This is the happily-ever-after ending Key Master setup from this film. Here is an outstanding 16 field hand-inked, hand-painted, laminated production cel of Dumbo with his mother in the back of the train, as well as all five crows (Fat, Dandy/Jim, Glasses, Preacher, and Straw Hat). The cels are on their Key Master hand-painted production background. The background is 25" x 12" with only a small portion trimmed. The back of the background has studio stamps of all kinds. Backgrounds in this animated feature film were painted by Claude Coats, John Hench, Al Dempster, Gerald Nevius, Ray Lockrem, and Joe Stahley. There is a backing board to the production background. It is stamped Copyright Walt Disney Productions. This extremely rare cel and Key Master background were originally sold through the Courvoisier Art Program. The painting of the background alone is a beautiful work of art. Setups of this quality from Dumbo are as rare as them come. Minor handling wear and tape on border from a previous framing. Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
