Dragon's Lair Promotional Poster Original Art (Don Bluth, 1983). "Save Me! To slay the dragon, use the magic sword!" Says Princess Daphne to Dirk the Daring as he is about to rescue her from the evil dragon Singe. The animation in this historic first-of-its-kind laser disc video game was created by Don Bluth along with John Pomeroy, Gary Goldman and Rick Dyer. It premiered in arcades on 6/23/83 and was an instant hit spawning sequel video games and an animated cartoon series. Interest in the property has been renewed as a result of its appearance on the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. This is one the single most important pieces of original artwork from this game we have seen brought to market. It is the original one-of-a-kind artwork used for the poster promoting Dragons Lair. Painted by long time background artist and color stylist, Ron Dias (1937 - 2013). Over the course of his career, Mr. Dias lent his artistic talent to Walt Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Chuck Jones and Don Bluth to name a few. While at Bluth studios he was credited for Art Direction and Color Styling on Secret of NIMH and both groundbreaking Laser Disc video games Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. The art is painted in acrylic and measures 19.5" x 24" on 26.5" x 34" illustration board. The composition features incredible images of Dirk the Daring, Princess Daphne, Singe the Evil Dragon, and all the characters that Dirk must bravely encounter throughout the game to complete his mission. Included with the art is an overlay cel of the bottom credits. This is the published illustration used for the promo poster and it's signed by the artist in the bottom left corner. Minor handling, edge wear, overall condition is Very Good.
