Dragon Ball Z Frieza Production Cel and Animation Drawing (Toei Animation, c. 1989-96). "I doubt I need an introduction, but just in case, I am the mighty Frieza, and yes, all the horrible stories you've heard are true." The terrifying and ruthless villain Frieza stands ready in his epic fight against Goku in this characteristically perfect hand-painted original production cel! This incredible cel appears in Episode 87 titled "The Ultimate Battle" (timestamp 16:28), and it is animated by Key animator Tomekichi Takeuchi! Episode 87 marks the first episode of the longest battle in Japanese anime history, where Frieza and Goku start their legendary duel! Creator Akira Toriyama said Frieza's design is an amalgamation of what he thought monsters looked like in his childhood. According to the Dragon Ball story guide Daizenshuu 2, Toriyama was also inspired to create Frieza due to the events of the Japanese economic bubble that had occurred at the time he was writing the Saiyan Saga, with Frieza specifically being based on real estate speculators, which Toriyama claimed were "the worst sort of people". This fantastic cel depicts the notorious villain at 7.75" x 6.5" on the 10.25" x 9" cel. The piece is accompanied by its matching original animation douga drawing rendered in graphite and color pencil on 10.5" x 9.5" animation paper. Both the cel and drawing are numbered A7 in the upper right corner, and each show minor handling and edge wear with the cel showing slight paint debris on the left edge. The cel is displayed on a printed background for presentation purposes, and the condition overall is Very Good.
