Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas Production Cel Setup (MGM, 1966). "They rush for their toys... and all that NOISE, the NOISE, NOISE, NOISE!" The Grinch explains what he hates about Christmas in this rant at the 4:02 mark. Presented is an extraordinary hand-painted production cel setup of the title character of this Chuck Jones-directed holiday classic. It's an enormous front-facing close-up of an exasperated red-eyed Grinch who measures 9.25" x 4" on a 12 field 2 cel setup. The setup is presented over a blue print background, bears a Linda Jones seal, and is hand-signed by the film's legendary director, Mr. Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002). A Certificate of Authenticity is included. As Grinch production cels go, there are few that can compare to this one for image size and expression. The piece shows light handling and there is a small tear on the bottom edge of the background where the setup is attached with clear tape. Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
