    Description

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas Max Production Cel Set-Up With Master Background (MGM, 1966). An original hand-painted production cel of Max, trailing along behind the Grinch's speeding sleigh, placed over the original hand-painted Master Background art -- what a set-up! Backgrounds from this time-honored classic are rarely offered; this one is marked BG 205B in the upper border. The gouache on Bristol background image area measures approximately 15.5" across, while little Max is 2.5" long. Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
