Description
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas Christmas Feast Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background Signed by Chuck Jones (MGM, 1966). "He brought everything back, all the food for the feast. And he, he himself, the Grinch, carved the roast beast." First and foremost, this isn't only the greatest Grinch Key Master setup we have seen to date, it is the single greatest piece of original Grinch production art EVER. From the final moments of the celebrated 1966 Christmas special How the Grinch Stole Christmas, this elaborate hand-inked hand-painted 5-production cel setup is presented on its original Key Master background, hand-painted beautifully in gouache on background board. Backgrounds for Grinch are attributed to Maurice Noble, Hal Ashmead, Philip DeGuard and Bob Inman. A large 16-field setup, it is signed by legendary director Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002), and it bears an official Linda Jones Inc. seal. Chuck Jones' signature is also on the back of the background in graphite, dated 1998. If all of this was not enough, this piece contains an unbelievably rare animation error in the beard of the Who sitting on the left side of the table. It can be seen in the final product at approximately the 24:43 mark of the special. With so many incredible features, it is easy to forget that most importantly this joyful masterpiece encapsulates the philosophies of the special: "Welcome Christmas. Bring your cheer, cheer to all Whos, far and near. Christmas Day is in our grasp, so long as we have hands to grasp. Christmas Day will always be, just as long as we have we. Welcome Christmas while we stand, heart to heart and hand in hand." This piece contains production notes in the corners of the cels, and the cels are taped to the background. The background bears the notation Sc 272 5577 in the upper right, and the setup shows mild evidence of tape in corners and edges. There are pinholes in the corners of the background, and overall there is minor handling and edge wear. A small chip of paint missing on the left edge of the background, and the condition is Very Good.Auction Info
