Description
Double Dribble Production Background (Walt Disney, 1946). "Marathu shoots! And... and he's in! I mean, it's in!" Seen at the 6:42 mark of the animated theatrical short Double Dribble, presented is a magnificent original production background by the hand of Maurice Greenberg. One of the sports series of cartoons in which Goofy demonstrates a sport in the role of every character, Double Dribble hilariously covers the sport of basketball. This incredible painting is seen in the moment of the game-winning shot, in which both the ball and the player are launched down the court into the hoop on the other side. A humorous use of depth and atmosphere (note the one-sided state of the attendees), this impressive painting is rendered masterfully in gouache on 12 field 5-peghole background board. The piece is numbered 2336 and Sc. 118 in the lower right corner, and bears a production stamp with those numbers on the back side as well. A protective sheet of acetate overlays the painting, and the piece shows minor handling and edge wear with some age-related toning and scuffing near the top edge.
