Donald's Garden Group of 7 Donald Duck Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1942). What starts off as a pleasant morning, with Donald strutting into his garden singing "In the Good Old Summertime", quickly devolves into chaos as a ravenous gopher proceeds to decimate the entire crop (except for the onions!) This short was released on June 12, 1942. It was directed by Disney animator Dick Lundy, who, though not Donald's creator per se, is credited with giving Donald his famous "hotheaded" show-off personality. Longtime Disney animator Bob Carlson contributed animation to the film. After a morning spent with defective watering equipment, Donald inadvertently disturbs a sleeping gopher - and alerts the diminutive rodent to the bountiful (and vulnerable) supply of veggies close by. Donald's prize-winning watermelons (which received First Place at the Pomona Fair), seem to be the gluttonous gopher's prime objective, and Donald can only watch in horror as he is outsmarted time and time again. In fact, the gopher ends up consuming Donald's entire garden - leaving only the onions behind! These animation drawings can be seen near the 6:30 point in the film. Donald's watermelons all seem to be growing from the same vine, arranged much like beads on a string. The gopher is pulling them all down his burrow at once - the last two will be gone in an instant! Donald readies himself to pounce - and ultimately misses. (The gopher immediately proceeds to tie up poor Donald, using the same vines as a rope!) The drawings are rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Light toning of paper. In Very Good condition.
