Donald's Date Good Housekeeping Original Art by Tom Wood (Walt Disney, 1939). The theatrical short Mr. Duck Steps Out, directed by Jack King and released on 6/7/40, was one of Donald Duck's biggest hits. (It should be noted that the story and gags were written and storyboarded by Carl Barks under the original working title "Donald's Date".) This is the original Tom Wood artwork for the December 1939 Good Housekeeping page, in gouache on board. It bears the original working title and was released seven months before the short film version. This adaptation can be seen on page 223 in Walt Disney's Mickey and Friends book (Gemstone Press, 2005). This is an important original Good Housekeeping page, and it is signed by Barks (1901-2000), who was instrumental in the making of this historic short. He has inscribed the Daisy Duck panel, "Carl Barks/'Mr. Duck Steps Out' Story Board Script". Framed with Plexiglas and matted with an approximately 18" x 20" image area spread over six panels. In Fine condition with minor handling wear.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
