DescriptionDonald's Cousin Gus Donald Duck Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1939). This lively 12 field 5-peghole final animation drawing of Donald Duck as he fights off his visiting (and voracious!) Cousin Gus for the bread was created by a Walt Disney Studios animator in production of the animated cartoon directed by Jack King, and a cel painting was made directly from it. They play the kids game of racing hand-over-hand to the end of the bat; Donald wins but Gus cheats and makes off with the loaf! This cartoon marked the debut and only appearance of the ever-hungry Gus Goose in an animated film; he became a regular character in the comic book stories of Carl Barks as Donald's second cousin and the great-nephew of Grandma Duck. Don Towsley animated this scene; he worked on a number of Donald Duck cartoons and other animated films, his name appears on the Donald model sheets of the late 1930s, and, along with animator Fred Spencer, he led the 1936 Character Analysis Class preserved in the in-studio document "Discussion and Analysis of Donald Duck and Donna Duck." The animator wrote the studio designation "C151" at lower right to indicate this original's place in the scene; production notes to Studio cel inkers are written on the sheet. The art is in graphite with red, green, and brown pencils, with an approximate image size of 9" x 6.5". In Good condition with handling/edge wear and minor paper toning.
