Dizzy Divers Popeye and Olive Oyl Animation Drawings Display (Max Fleischer, 1935). "Give him a head start, give him a head start" mutters Popeye to Olive Oyl as she zips up his diving suit. Here is a pair of rare studio animation drawings from Popeye's 24th cartoon. It was directed by Dave Fleischer and released on 7/26/35. In the short, Popeye and Bluto are in competing deep sea diving businesses. Bluto has tricked Popeye and is on his way ahead of him to the treasure. Great to have both Popeye and Olive Oyl in these studio drawings; the first is a production drawing in graphite, with the number 89 in the upper right corner, while the second is a rare hand-colored color model drawing of the two, with ink and paint call-out codes and #137 in the upper right. Image sizes are 4", with both pieces in a common Plexiglas-front frame measuring 25" x 11". Any and all Popeye art from this early Fleischer era is considered very rare; these are nicely polished drawings. Frame is sold as-is. Artwork condition is Very Good.
