Disney Legend Award Presented to Norm Ferguson (Walt Disney, 1999). The holy grail of all awards given out by the Walt Disney Company is the Disney Legend Award. It was created by Andrea Favilli, as a hand-crafted bronze. The Award depicts Mickey Mouse holding a star-tipped wand. On the award, the Spiral stands for imagination, the power of an idea. The hand holds the gift of skill, discipline and craftsmanship. The wand and star represent magic -- that spark that is ignited when imagination and skill combine to create a new dream. The Disney Legend is a Disney Studio Hall of Fame Program that recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary and integral contributions to the Walt Disney Company. The award was established in 1987. Roy E. Disney originally chaired the recipient committee. There is a Legends Plaza at the Walt Disney Studios grounds in Burbank California. Only a handful of these awards have ever come up for sale. This is the Disney Legend Award presented to Norm Ferguson (1902 - 1957). Mr. Ferguson began at the Walt Disney Studio in 1929 and worked there until 1953. He was a central contributor to the studio's stylistic development in the 1930s. He is most widely known for his work on Pluto; he also had a big hand in the early development of Peg Leg Pete and the Big Bad Wolf. He did a great deal of work on the Old Hag in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The Award comes with a great 8" x 10" studio photo of him at his animation desk, looking into a mirror and drawing Pluto along with a VHS tape of the ceremony dated 11/10/99. It is 39 minutes and 50 seconds long. Copies of his Studio bio and speech read at his induction are included as well. The Award is approximately 24" high. This is the pinnacle for Disney Studio awards! Fine condition. From the Norm Ferguson Archives.
