WWII Fighting Squadron VF12 "Pirate Parrot" Insignia Design (Walt Disney, 1940s). Birds represented the single largest category among Disney-designed insignias. This is rare original World War II insignia artwork for the Fighting Squadron VF12 of the US Navy. This was the first Navy squadron to win the "Bent Wing" title. Done in gouache on 9.5" x 8" board this is a fun 8.5" image. A Walt Disney studio signature is on the bottom left. This art was chosen for a 1944 National Geographic article, but the squadron never produced the proper copyright release from Walt Disney for the article so it was never used. Notes to this effect are on the reverse. Minor handling and edge wear and a small tape pull through the tip of the sword. Slight fading to the signature. In Very Good condition.
