Description

Wonderful World of Oz - Proposed Theme Park - Original "Emerald City interior" Concept/Pitch Art Illustration by Eric Heschong for Landmark Entertainment (LEG, 1999). This original concept/pitch artwork was created by Landmark Entertainment Group for the ambitious late-1990s proposal Wonderful World of Oz, a large-scale theme park inspired by the 1939 MGM classic. Rendered in gouache on 25" x 17" illustration board by renowned presentation artist Eric Heschong, the piece depicts a stunning interior view of the Emerald City. Closely modeled after the film, the scene shows costumed characters of the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion greeting guests, while the fabled "horse of a different color" pulls a carriage through the glittering emerald-hued streets. Between 1998 and 1999, Landmark developed the complete creative vision for Wonderful World of Oz, preparing a master plan that featured Munchkinland, the Yellow Brick Road, the Wicked Witch's Castle, and the Emerald City. The park was to feature a mix of dark rides, media-based shows, live entertainment, retail, and dining, all steeped in the Oz mythology. Eric Heschong (1950-2013) gained acclaim as a master concept artist for Landmark, Universal Studios, and Walt Disney Imagineering. This vibrant original, in Very Good condition, is a rare glimpse into Landmark's visionary unbuilt Oz project.
