Walt Disney's Surprise Package Captain Hook and Wendy Concept Drawing (Walt Disney, 1944). Walt Disney's Surprise Package is a hardcover book published by Simon and Shuster in 1944. It contains assorted short stories based on various Disney character and even a few that had yet to appear at the time. This drawing of Hook and Wendy appears in the chapter titled "Peter Pan and the Pirates" on page 77. This is the very first look at these characters by the public and predates the release of the Disney film by almost a decade. Its a wonderfully rendered 9" x 9" image in Conte' crayon on 14" x 10.5" Bristol board. The margins include notes on cropping and page placement. Disney studios had been planning on a Peter Pan film since the 1930s and this serves as proof to how committed they were to the eventual project. The piece shows handling and tape residue both above the image and across Hook's hat. Condition is Very Good.
