    Description

Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean Souvenir Magazine Original Art Mock-Up (Walt Disney, 1967). When this legendary ride opened in 3/18/67, the park had a 48-page souvenir magazine made to sell to the public. This magazine showcased the story of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" as well as a detailed story on how the ride was made. It had pictures of Walt Disney observing development plus artwork by Marc Davis, Bill Justice and others as well as Imagineers working on the audio animatronic figures. This 48-page magazine had artwork used for the front and back cover. It was titled Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean - Disneyland on the front cover. The back cover read "The Story of a Robust Adventure in New Orleans Square." This ride was so popular it eventually opened in Disney World (1973), Tokyo Disney (1983), Disneyland Paris (1992), and Shanghai Disneyland (2016). This ride also went on to stimulate the blockbuster Johnny Depp/Captain Jack Sparrow live-action movie franchise (FIVE movies to date). This Souvenir Magazine was updated in 1974 and branded both Disneyland and Disney-owned. The artwork covers were replaced by live-action photos but the interior remained mostly the same. This is the original mock-up of the Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean Souvenir Magazine. It is 9" x 11" with approximately 48 pages, all of original artwork. The style on the pages is different. It looks to be cut-out and pasted in each page. This is a close final mock-up version without text, and includes the original artwork layout. We believe this mock-up possibly has artwork done from the hands of Marc Davis, Bill Justice, Claude Coats, and others. Different styles are seen through the mock-up. Also, a mimeographed master proof of the book is included and some artists' names appear by panels where artwork would be used. This Pirates of the Caribbean Souvenir Magazine was sold all over the world in record numbers. Here is the original artwork to this very important piece of Disneyland history. Please note the book mock-up is ALL ORIGINAL ARTWORK, page after page! There is some damage to spine. Pages have minor handling and edge wear; a few pages are loose. Overall, considering how old and how important this is, we consider the condition to be Good.
