Toby Tyler Circus Set Design Painting by Robert Ayres (Walt Disney, 1960). This movie starred Disney Legend Kevin Corcoran (aka "Moochie") as a boy who runs away from home and joins the circus. It was filmed on Golden Oak Ranch, in California. The movie was released theatrically on 1/21/60, and eventually shown on The Wonderful World of Color. Both Ub Iwerks and Peter Ellenshaw worked on this film. Also working on this film was Robert Temple Ayres (1914 - 2012). Mr. Ayres is best known as the man who painted the burning "Bonanza" TV series map. He was a set illustrator for hundreds of films for Paramount and Walt Disney Studios. He also did a great deal of design work for Disney at EPCOT, in Orlando Florida. This is a rare Robert Ayres original painting done in conjunction with the movie Toby Tyler. It is signed in bottom right as R. T. Ayres, and housed in an open-front frame of 29" x 21". Mat opening on the frame is 21" x 12". This is a simply stunning gouache circus painting on illustration board. Minor mat surface wear. In Very Good condition.
