The Reluctant Dragon Concept/Story Art (Walt Disney, 1941). Kay Nielsen was a Danish illustrator who was part of the Golden Age of Illustration. Joe Grant recommended him to Walt Disney. He worked for Walt Disney Studios from 1937 through 1941. He was renowned for his concept art and inspirational sketches and paintings for studio animation and films. His early 1930s work for The Little Mermaid was even referenced to when the film finally came to fruition in 1989. This is a rare outstanding original concept/story sketch of the Reluctant Dragon. It is done in graphite and pastel on Disney 5-peghole animation paper and mounted to a thin piece of board. It is signed by Kay Nielsen (1886 - 1957) in the bottom left. Border has lots of tape residue, none near the image, with board tanning due to previous framing and minor chipping in the image. Dragon is 6" and impressive. Good condition.
