The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Original Concept/Pitch Art by Eric Heschong for a Proposed GRAMMY Recording Studio on Chicago's Navy Pier by Landmark Entertainment (LEG, c. 1990s). This original concept/pitch artwork was created by Landmark Entertainment Group in the mid-1990s for The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences' (NARAS) ambitious but unbuilt GRAMMY Recording Studio attraction at Chicago's Navy Pier. Rendered in gouache on 24" x 17.5" board, the vibrant piece depicts a collage of music legends-including Michael Jackson, Bonnie Raitt, Louis Armstrong, and Hank Williams-set within an interactive studio environment designed to immerse guests in the art of recording. As part of Navy Pier's major 1995 redevelopment, Landmark proposed the GRAMMY Recording Studio as one component of a larger year-round GRAMMY-branded destination that would include museum-style exhibits, live performance venues, themed retail, and hands-on experiences. The studio concept envisioned guests stepping into the roles of artists and producers, surrounded by iconic figures of music history, while learning about recording technology and the creative process. Though never realized, the project exemplifies Landmark's reputation for merging culture, commerce, and entertainment into bold experiential designs. This rare piece of original artwork stands as a superb artifact of Landmark's visionary portfolio.
