Description

The Love Bug Original Concept Art by Peter Ellenshaw (Walt Disney, 1968). Super RARE! This is the first piece of concept art that we have ever seen from the beloved Disney film The Love Bug. This original production illustration is from the hand of Disney Legend Peter Ellenshaw (1913 - 2007). Created as a precursor or as a study for a matte visual, the artwork depicts the streets of San Francisco. The film was set in California and when they couldn't film on location, they filmed at the Disney Studios in Burbank against Ellenshaw's matte paintings. Herbie Fun Fact: Peter Ellenshaw worked on this film as a special effects' matte painter. Between Peter, his son Harrison and his daughter Lynda; an Ellenshaw has worked on every one of the Herbie films. A matte painting is a painted representation of a landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that is not present at the filming location. The Ellenshaw's are masters at the art of painting matte visuals. This amazing concept piece from The Love Bug was beautifully painted in acrylic on 20" x 12" board. The art is signed by Peter Ellenshaw in the bottom center right. With edge wear and some light damage to the corners (easily framed over), the art is in Good to Very Good condition.
From the Peter and Harrison Ellenshaw Family Archive.
