Description

The Great Mouse Detective Ratigan's Lair Throne Room Color Key Painting by James Coleman (Walt Disney, 1986). "From the brain that brought you the Big Ben Caper. The head that made headlines in every newspaper, and the wonderous things like the Tower Bridge Job. That cunning display that made Londoners sob." Professor Ratigan's opulent lair is greatly showcased in this lot, offering a magnificent color key from The Great Mouse Detective by the film's color stylist, James Coleman. Coleman's outstanding skills were discovered at a Walt Disney art show when he worked in the mail room. This led him to work as a background artist on Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too, eventually moving into a color stylist for this film and later participating in momentous projects like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. Created to plan for the color scheme of Ratigan's throne room, this color key shows great resemblance to what we see on screen at the 14:33 timestamp, showcasing the influential role that this piece had over the scene. This image was done by Coleman in gouache on a 12-field board. In Very Good condition with light handling and edge wear from production.
From the James Coleman Collection.
