The Flintstones "The Gruesomes" Original Concept Art (Hanna-Barbera, 1964). Here it is, folks: The piece de resistance! Rare original large-scale 31" x 13" concept layout drawing of The Gruesome Family. The family was intended as a spooky send-up of the monster craze that swept through the country during the mid-sixties, embodied in publications like Famous Monsters of Filmland and television shows like The Munsters. These characters eventually ended up as the Flintstones' next door neighbors (although this early concept art doesn't seem to share their prehistoric theme). This fun and zany drawing shows a 1960s cocktail party in full swing, with Hanna-Barbera versions of all of Universal's classic monster stars! "Jerry Eisenberg" signature in bottom right. The piece has been wrinkled due to water-damage, there is staining throughout the drawing, and the top border has been singed by flame. Minor tears along bottom of border. Tape visible where sheets of paper have been joined together originally. In Fair condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
