Description

The Dognapper Rare Peg Leg Pete and Fifi Pan Background Layout (Walt Disney, 1934). "Officers Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, dognapper is reported in your territory." The nefarious dognapper Peg Leg Pete is on the loose and he has Minnie's Pekingese Fifi! This enormous, detailed, and rare pan background layout can be found at about 3:05 in the classic animated short The Dognapper as Pete hides in an old sawmill, pulling Fifi out of the bag he had stored her in. She gives him a piece of his mind and barks up a storm. The layout is noted 27 and was originally on display at A Salute to Disney Animation Art - The Early Years 1928-1942 at the Philadelphia Art Alliance from 9/8 to 11/3 1990. Three printed pages from this exhibit are included as reference. It's a fantastic example of the way Disney was innovating animation! This included layouts and storyboards that, according to John Canemaker in Paper Dreams: The Art and Artists of Disney Storyboards, would evolve from comic book-like "story sketches" created in the 1920s for shorts like Steamboat Willie to well-established processes that would be adopted by other studios only a few years later. This layout was created for Scene 17 and includes a few notes, including the name of the animator, Gerry, who wasn't credited. The layout drawing measures about 21'' x 8.5'' on the 26.25'' x 9'' paper and is floated in a 26.75'' x 9.75'' mat window. The frame itself is glass-fronted at 30'' x 12''. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. Very Good condition with light edge and handling wear, faint age-related toning, and a small edge tear.
