The Black Cauldron The Horned King Character Development Concept Art by Mel Shaw (Walt Disney, 1985). Many amazing artists took a stab at developing this film's villain The Horned King: Tim Burton, Mike Ploog, Andreas Deja, David Jones, Phil Nibbelink and Al Wilson, to name a few. This is an early character development/concept artwork from the hand of Disney Legend Inductee, Mr. Mel Shaw. It's an amazing piece of concept/character development artwork, with four early images of The Horned King in ink and pastel on board measuring 20" x 16". Images range in size from 6" to 12". The cover sheet to this artwork reads, "Horned King Pastels," hand-signed by Mel Shaw (1914 - 2012). Minor handling wear, pinholes in corners. Very Good condition. From the Joe Hale Collection.
