Description

The Black Cauldron The Horned King and Creeper Concept Drawing (Walt Disney, 1985). "Arise, my messengers of death! Our time has arrived!" Rare early concepts of the Horned King and Creeper from 1985's The Black Cauldron are featured here in this spectacular original development drawing by the hand of Phil Nibbelink. Notorious for its dark themes and scary concepts by ordinary Disney standards, The Black Cauldron is a misunderstood masterpiece of the Disney animated feature canon. Despite production delays, new management and low box office numbers, the film has since developed an adamant cult following for its tonal edge and uniqueness among its fellow Disney feature counterparts. Phil Nibbelink played a major role in the production of Disney's run of films in the 80s, including work on The Fox and the Hound, The Great Mouse Detective, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and of course, The Black Cauldron. This piece by the artist is rendered in pastel on gray paper measuring 12" x 18". The paper shows minor handling and edge wear with some tearing on the bottom edge. There are pinholes in the corners, and the condition overall is Very Good.
