The Black Cauldron Taran and Princess Eilonwy Character Development Art Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1985). Andreas Deja was inducted as a Disney Legend in 2015, after a staggering body of work in Disney Feature Animation. His very first assignment when joining the Walt Disney Studios was doing character visual development for The Black Cauldron. His initial work was considered so impressive, he was moved to animation for this film. This is some of the first studio work by the great Andreas Deja: a series of three character development/concept sketches for the characters Taran and Princess Eilonwy. You can see by this early work, she was not a blond! Graphite, ink, and marker on paper measuring 16" x 11.5". Sheet one is four images of Taran, with sizes of 6" - 9", with "Taran - Black Cauldron" written on the sheet. The second development page features images of a black-haired Eilonwy, nice full-figure images with sizes of 6" and 7". The third sheet is Taran and Princess Eilonwy together. Again, nice full-figure images, with sizes of 8". Each sheet is signed in graphite by Mr. Deja. Important work by a very important Disney artist. Minor handling with edge wear and tear. Pinholes in corners. Overall condition is Good. Three large art pieces in this lot!

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
