The Art of Marc Davis - "Magic Lantern Theater" Concept Drawing (Walt Disney, 1990's). Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) was one of Walt Disney's original Nine Old Men, and was a Disney Legend Inductee in 1989. Often referred to as "Walt's Secret Weapon," he was an important animator for the studio and an important Imagineer at Disneyland's WED. After retirement from Disney, he was hired by Landmark Entertainment to do a series of concept paintings for a proposed theme park development in Valencia, California. This is one of his original pieces of art for the proposed "Magic Lantern Theater" in that park. The characters "Babe" and "Mack" are drawn in ink and colored with gouache on 14" x 17" paper, mounted to 16" x 19" backing board. It is signed by the artist in the bottom right corner. Original theme park concept art by Disney Legend Marc Davis is rare, beautiful, and important. Displays some minor handling wear and surface scuffing. Condition is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
