    The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad Storyboard/Concept Painting by John Hench Original Art (Walt Disney, 1949). Here is a fantastic storyboard/concept art piece from the hand of Disney Legend Inductee, John Hench (1908 - 2004). The illustration features J. Thaddeus Toad from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. There are two segments in the film, both based upon popular works of literature. The Adventures of Mr. Toad is based on The Wind in the Willows, the story of J. Thaddeus Toad, Esq., the happy-go-lucky wealthy proprietor of Toad Hall. Hench's rendition shows a portrait of Mr. Toad hanging in Toad Hall while Mole, MacBadger and Water Rat raise their glasses and toast the picture. Hench started as a story artist in the animation department working on backgrounds, layout and art direction, effects animation and special effects. Hench was respected by Walt Disney as one of the studio's most gifted artists who would later become the official portrait artist of Mickey Mouse. In 1990, he received the Disney Legend award, the company's highest honor. John Hench remained at Walt Disney Imagineering until his death in 2004 at the age of 95. This extraordinary piece was rendered in gouache on board of 8" x 10". The piece is floated in a frame of 15.5" x 19". Frame sold as-is. The painting has tack holes in all four corners from production use. Condition of art is Very Good.
