The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad Headless Horseman Concept Painting by Mary Blair (Walt Disney, 1949). "The next morning, Ichabod's hat was found. Close besides it, a shattered pumpkin. But there was no trace of the schoolmaster." says narrator Bing Crosby. Mary Blair did color and styling on this film along with John Hench, Don DaGradi, and Claude Coats. John Canemaker wrote of her work in this film, "Blair's color and styling wonderfully contrasts Sleepy Hollow's bright autumnal colors and midnight spookiness" in The Art and Flair of Mary Blair: An Appreciation, on page 23. This is an outstanding Mary Blair concept Color Key painting of Ichabod Crane on his horse, while being chased by the Headless Horseman, holding his glowing Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin high above his head. A Key scene in the movie, and a wonderful study of color, painted in gouache on light board measuring 17.5" x 8". Pinholes in corners and light handling wear. Very Good condition.
