Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Evil Queen and Magic Mirror Preliminary Study by Gustaf Tenggren (Walt Disney, 1937). "Magic Mirror on the wall, who now is the fairest one of all?" After believing she now holds the heart of Snow White, the Evil Queen goes to the Magic Mirror to ensure she is now the fairest one of all, only to be surprised by the truth. By the hand of the renowned animator and illustrator Gustaf Tenggren (1896 - 1970), we offer in this lot a spellbinding original preliminary study drawing created to develop one of the most famous concept paintings for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. During his time working at the Disney Studio, the Sweden-born artist produced some of the most captivating concept art that aided in directing the artist style of these early projects. This haunting image is done in graphite, measuring an image size of 6.5" x 8.5" on the trimmed 12-field five-peghole animation sheet, showing the Evil Queen opening the heart box in front of the Magic Mirror. A remarkable demonstration of Tenggren's poignant style, this noteworthy drawing was done in preparation for the watercolor illustration that appeared on page 141 of Walt Disney's Mickey and the Gang, Classic Stories in Verse. The lot shows pinholes in the four corners and near the top and bottom edges, normal age-related toning, faint graphite smudging, and light handling and edge wear from production. In Good to Very Good condition.
