Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Dopey and Dwarfs Concept/Storyboard Original Art Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1937). Set of three very early storyboard/concept drawings of Dopey (in two) and the rest of the dwarfs, from this historic first Disney animated feature. Judging by the examples shown in Didier Ghez's great book They Drew As They Pleased: The Hidden Art of Disney's Golden Age (The 1930s), these appear to be from the hand of Albert Hurter (1883 - 1942). "He was a genius" Ghez quotes Joe Grant as saying. "He had a cigar in his left hand, a magic wand in his right hand." The first drawing is of Dopey playing an odd makeshift drum ("The Silly Song"), in graphite and red pencil, image size 4.25" x 4.5". Next is Dopey with a more elaborate drum setup, in graphite with an image size of 7" x 4.75". Finally, two views of six dwarfs, as they try together to open a stuck door, and the resulting tumble back when they fail; in graphite and red pencil, image sizes 4.5" x 4.25" and 3" x 1.5". All three are on paper, with sizes of 5.5" x 6", 7.25" x 5.75", and 6" x 7.5". These last two have considerable paper toning, with slight brittleness and a small area of missing paper in the lower right. Good to Very Good condition.
