DescriptionSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs Color Key/Concept Art Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1937).
The backgrounds for this landmark film were painted by a team of extraordinary artists, including Mique Nelson, Merle Cox, Claude Coats, Phil Dike, Ray Lockrem, Maurice Noble, and Samuel Armstrong. In this lot is a pair of pre-production/Color Key concept backgrounds done for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. They are rendered in gouache on trimmed background board. One is a partial image of the opening of the Diamond Mine. It is an 8" x 5" image on 8.5" x 6" trimmed board. The second pre-production/Color Key concept background is a view of the forest and front corner of the Dwarfs' cottage, also in gouache on trimmed board. Painted area on this one is 7" x 10" on trimmed board of 11" x 7.5". Both pieces showcase the great background styles that would end up in this film. Some brown tape paper on border, and minor handling. Overall condition is Very Good.
