Slue Foot Sue's Golden Horseshoe Concept Art by Sam McKim (Walt Disney, 1955). Here is an original concept art painting from the hand of Sam McKim (1924-2004). Mr. McKim was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1996. He began working on theme park concept paintings for Walt Disney Studios in 1954. He is best known for the theme park souvenir maps, but is also considered one of the most important people in the development of Disneyland. His initial work was in Frontierland, Main Street, Tom Sawyer Island, and his first assignment, Slue Foot Sue's Golden Horseshoe Saloon. The Golden Horseshoe Saloon (also known as Pecos Bill's Golden Horseshoe Saloon) opened on 7/17/55. Wally Boag became a Theme Park Legend for his performances as both Pecos Bill and the Traveling Salesman at this show. The first show was on 7/17/55 and ran through 10/12/86. A total of 39,000 performances were recorded for this revue. This amazing oversized painting of the interior of the saloon (with several cowboys playing cards, mixed in with the park visitors) is in gouache on board, matted with an opening of 35" x 26" and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 47" x 39". The original Disneyland white information label is on the back of the frame. This piece was originally sold in the 1980s at the Art Gallery located above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. The white sticker reads "Slue Foot Sue's Golden Horseshoe Disneyland/Frontierland/'Saloon Interior' Sam McKim 1955." The painting has the Pepsi sponsor sign in the background and bottom right has "Designed by WED Enterprises." Stunning piece of original artwork for an important part of Disneyland history. Fine condition.
