Sleeping Beauty Maleficent and Diablo Concept/Color Key Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, 1959). "Sixteen years and not a trace of her! Idiots! Imbeciles!" says Maleficent to her Goons and Guards when they come up empty looking for Briar Rose. "My pet, you are my last hope. Circle far and wide. Search for a maiden of 16, with hair of sunshine gold and lips as red as the rose. Go... AND DO NOT FAIL ME!" This is what Maleficent says to her faithful raven, Diablo. An outstanding Eyvind Earle original Color Key/concept painting of this exact scene. It's a stunning painting of Maleficent at the castle window watching Diablo fly away on his mission. Incredible sunset to the right of the castle. Painting is in gouache on board measuring 12" x 6", framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 21" x 15". Disney Legend Inductee Eyvind Earle has hand-signed the artwork in the bottom right corner. Minor handling wear and tack holes in the corners. Frame is sold as-is, artwork condition is Very Good. A Key Scene!

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
