Description

Sleeping Beauty and the Good Fairies Little Golden Book Preliminary Graphite Illustrations by Julius Svensen Original Art Group of 18 plus #D71 Published Book (Walt Disney/Simon and Schuster, 1958/1959). As a preview for the 1959 animated feature Sleeping Beauty, Walt Disney Studios and publishing giant Simon & Schuster came out with a superbly illustrated storybook as part of the Little Golden Book series (issued as # D71 in 1958). The illustrations were done by Julius Svensen (1919 - 1971), a Norwegian-born animator and storyboard artist at Disney who worked on such films as Fantasia, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and One Hundred and One Dalmatians during his long career at the studio. Mr. Svensen also illustrated several Disney newspaper comic strips, including an adaptation of Sleeping Beauty. Here are his original concept/preliminary drawings for Sleeping Beauty and the Good Faries, all done to printed size in graphite on paper, except one page in blue pencil. The drawings are mostly two-page spreads, with images for 30 pages drawn on 18 sheets of lightweight paper and housed in a binder; you'll see many changes from these drawings from the published book (a first-printing copy is included with the art). The art is in Very Good overall condition with minor handling wear.
