Shrek Early Shrek Concept Art Group of 2 (DreamWorks, 2001). Although Shrek came out in 2001, it had been in development throughout the 1990s. In fact, Chris Farley was the original voice for Shrek, and supposedly had finished most of the film's initial dialog before passing away in 1997. Although this was a computer-generated film, the early development included hand-drawn art. Here are two early studies of the Ogre called Shrek, looking more human here than in the finished film, drawn in graphite and red pencil on 12 field 3-peghole animation paper. These are nice large images of the character getting out of bed (12" x 9") and napping on some hay (11" x 6"). This is some of the only artwork from this landmark film we have seen come to market; needless to say, it is extremely rare. Fine condition.
